EXPLANATION OF OUR FEES & SLIDING SCALE
We provide high quality professional acupuncture, herbal medicine, and psychotherapy at affordable rates. We do this by allowing patients to pay along a sliding scale, and by seeing more than one patient in an hour. A sliding scale is a range of payment options that allows you to choose what you pay according to your ability to pay.We offer a sliding scale not to be charitable (although we have nothing against charity). A sliding scale is provided for two reasons: It’s good for you and it’s good for us.
Finding Your Place on the Sliding Scale
We are committed to making acupuncture affordable. We are also respect your right to privacy, and we don't want you to feel you have to justify why you are paying a certain amount or why it may change from treatment to treatment. Our practice is built on trust, and we know you will pay what you can afford. We only ask that you pay somewhere between $15 and $40 for each treatment. We also ask that you pay $15 for the holistic health assessment (unless you have a gift certificate), but if that extra $15 makes the treatment unaffordable, please let us know and we can work something out. Our priority is that you be able to come in and get the health care you need.
The purpose of the sliding scale is to separate the issues of money and treatment; we want you to come often enough to get better and stay better! Research in the US (and thousands of years of experience in Asia) has shown that acupuncture is most effective when done frequently – once a week is the minimum to make progress and twice a week can increase the success rate significantly.
Why the Sliding Scale is Good for You
• The sliding scale makes acupuncture affordable and accessible.
• The sliding scale separates the issues of money and health.
• Research shows that your health will benefit with more visits. The sliding scale enables
you to come for as long and as often as you need to regain health
and/or manage your condition.
Why the Sliding Scale is Good for Us
• The sliding scale opens our services up to a much greater percentage
of the population. When more people can afford acupuncture, more
people will visit us.
• People get better because they can afford a full course of
treatment, they heal faster and are more likely to recommend us to their friends and
family – everybody wins.
Some patients are uncomfortable with the sliding scale . Please understand that the sliding scale is not charity, just good economics. It maximizes the number of people we can treat across a whole spectrum of the population.
If you are still reluctant to use the sliding scale, but are worried about affording continued treatment, please set aside any uncertainty and pay within your means. This helps everyone.
..."our pay-what-you-can is not an exercise in philanthropy. It's not a "noble experiment dear to our hearts". It's our livelihood. The purpose of pay-what-you-can is to create and maintain relationships with lots of different kinds of people. It's not to serve as feel-good advertising for the successful, corporate side of our business. We need all of our patients who are paying what they can afford. We depend on them. We have a narrow margin of survival, and our fate is in their hands, and pretty much everybody understands that. If it doesn't work out, we can't close up shop and go back to treating celebrities. Our businesses live their lives very close to the bone and very close to our patients."
